OUTFIT INSPO: Michelle Obama - Inauguration Inspiration
Michelle Obama was serving grace, grit, and style on a first class platter when she walked through those capital doors in her monochromatic power suit on Inauguration day. With a gasp of fresh air, American women everywhere felt that fashion power upstage the event in a Cabernet power suit. And just like that, inspiration hit this Modern Maz and I knew I had to bring a little of that fashion flavor back to the 405 with the #ForeverFLOTUSChallenge. A Tall Drink of Cabernet
Our new VP and Former First Ladies paid homage to those women who came before in shades of purple, and #foreverFLOTUS Michelle Obama chose a wine colored shade, I call Cabernet, and left us thirsty for more. It’s clear the color sent a message, addressing women’s suffrage, but also bipartisanship. These women in power put everyone on notice: the women were here to serve looks, displaying vibes of “when they go low, we go high” class.
Coat Command Chic
This coat like the woman that’s wearing it allows you to stand in your power and was the first step to the Becoming of FLOTUS inspired style. A great overcoat can elevate any outfit when the cut and quality are on point and this one does just that.

The Wide Leg Pant
This is an incredibly feminine, floaty pant; high and tight on the waist and flowing out through a wide leg is a popular 70s throwback. In 2021, the versatile wide leg pant is on trend and on Mrs. Obama it is fire. This WIDE-LEG PANT from LaFayette 148 New York is the perfect dupe.
Color Crush on Cab
I have a serious crush on this Cab color. Head to toe shades of Purple or Cabernet with a matching wine colored belt create Monochromagic with this look. The rich shades of purple/red are colors that are punched-up and evoke feelings of strength, power, and royalty. This Hibiscus Turtleneck was a different shade of cab, but still worked to give that monochrome effect.
Waist Not, Want Not
Our former FLOTUS accessorized her outfit with the perfect statement belt. A belt sends a signal of being propped up by a strong support system and any boss babe stands stronger with back up. A great statement belt like this one emulates the one designed by Sergio Hudson, the original designer of this look. It cinches the waist to provide a great accent to top off an already amazing outfit that told the world Michelle Obama did not come here to play, she came here to slay.
