5 Tips to Work from Home and be Zoom-Ready

We have all been there at least once in the past year. You’re at home trying to get on a Zoom call, but also in charge of online learning. Just as you try to get your day started, you have to stop everything to redirect a '“child-sized disagreement,” or fix an online connection that is not working. Then, the next thing you know, you haven’t showered yet, your hair is in a top knot, and you’re 20 minutes from your next online meeting where you need to look like you have everything under control.

No problem. With three kids, I am an expert at the work-from-home (WFH) glow up.

Here are a few of my tried-and-true tips to look put-together quickly:

  1. Get a versatile blazer or an elevated looking shawl. On Zoom, we will likely only see your top half, and the blazer or shawl can still give you that polished look even if you have Vuori joggers or jeans on the bottom half. Another tried-and-true trick is a great patterned blouse. I wear animal prints often. They always make me look done up on Zoom calls, even when the rest of my outfit is better suited to the home.

  2. Always keep a light turtleneck that is breathable or a long-sleeved shirt with cotton fabric on hand. It is an easy go-to to pair with a blazer or a shawl.

  3. Wear a bright lipstick color. I am always shocked how on camera, bright lipstick colors can make you look more bright and alive. In the photo above, I am wearing a berry color from MAC.

  4. Avoid a bun if at all possible. Keep a brush, dry shampoo, or a spray bottle at your desk and fluff that hair.

  5. Get yourself a zoom light and angle the camera above you so you capture a more attractive facial angle. Here is the one I’ve been using. This one is another great option too!
