Tuesday Takeover: Cynthia Tobar McCoy

It is an honor to introduce Cynthia Tobar McCoy to takeover this Tuesday. I met her as a young blossoming woman when she worked at the Latino Community Development Agency with my mother. Today, she is an accomplished Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of Emotional Wellness Counseling. I always admired her unique style, confidence, and independant way of looking at the world and I’m so excited to hear what she has to say about empowering yourself through fashion. With that let me pass the keyboard to the beautiful and insightful Cynthia Tobar McCoy.

Hello Maz Moderns!  I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since meeting Katherine! She was a beautiful teenager, emanating fashion forward sensibility and now, a phenomenal woman with whom I have great respect.  Happy to be among kindred spirits, I appreciate the empowered feelings evoked whenever I read this blog.  I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, licensed to practice in Oklahoma and New Mexico.  I’m a woman owned business in my private practice, Emotional Wellness Counseling, where I’m honored to help individuals therapeutically journey the path to emotional wellness.

One Day at a Time

I embrace a “one day at a time” mindset that, carries into my fashion style.  I ask myself “what do I feel like wearing?” It varies based on thoughts, emotions and feelings.  If it doesn’t leave me with a positive vibe, I won’t wear it.  My mindful approach to fashion consists of interwoven aspects of myself in mental (thoughts), emotional (feelings), physical (how my body feels) and spiritual (how it elevates a mood).  Together this guides the look and feeling I’m going for.

“There is no limit to what we as women can accomplish.” Michelle Obama

Dressed in my Ann Taylor black and grey pin striped suite eluding strength to this feminine self and coupled with a versatile white Calvin Klein shirt, I feel focused and courageous.  Complimenting this ensemble is femininity found in a 16inch string of pearls and earrings, a burgundy suede tote from Coach and, black suede Steven Madden heels that ground me.

Vulnerability is not about weakness. It’s about showing up and being seen.” -Brene Brown

In my green floral flutter sleeve dress from Target and Vince Camuto flats I feel balanced. I’m unguarded in Ann Taylor’s cardigan sweater and freshwater pearl earrings, radiating acceptance to this untethered ensemble. Appreciatively, I sport Joy Gryson’s crossbody bag and a black double IWatch band by Anhem.

“I am obsessed with becoming a woman comfortable in her own skin.”- Sandra Cisneros

I’m taken back to disco of the 70’s although it’s not what you think when you look at this ensemble.  It’s about the nostalgia I feel in CeCe’s jewel toned dress adorned with Kendra Scott’s black and gold earrings, a black Coach shoulder bag with Steven Madden black suede shoes.  I value the subtle presence of playfulness in these Black Rhinestone cat-eye glasses that allow me to reveal myself without any regard.

At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.” -Frida Kahlo

I meditate in my authentic space where self can be expressed in this grey Ann Taylor silk puff sleeve top and black high waist, wide leg trouser pant.  Channeling an avant-garde vibe, I go to my bold silver face necklace purchased at the Annual Paseo Arts Festival. Frida Kahlo would definitely wear this!  Silver hook James Avery earrings, and a Ross and Simmons silver cuff bracelet practically complete this look.  I love the vintage represented in these favored black and crème Jeffery Campbell Big Button Mary Jane Shoes.

“Synchronicity holds the promise that if we will change within, the patterns in our outer life will change also.”  Jean Shinoda Bolen MD, Jungian Analyst

I’m honored to work with people who seek to change emotionally wounded aspects of themselves and walk with them as they move towards healing perspectives.  In my clinical setting I care about how my patients perceive me.  Trustworthy and prepared I hold emotional space in my white Calvin Klein shirt and black Ann Taylor ankle pant.

Creating safety for open expression, I demonstrate it’s okay to be yourself and let your guard down in my leopard print shoe by Elliot Lucca, with my artsy bold face necklace and silver hook James Avery Earrings.
